.art therapy for kids
Art Therapy is a powerful tool to support the development of many cognitive habilites. This was a session that explored textures, primary colors and the most important, breaking out the fear of trying something new.
Kids at this age were not able to grasp the concept of the paint inside of a ziplock bag, so for them, the paint was going to get through it and all over everything. Some of them were very resistant about getting their hands sticky, which is a very normal characteristic at this age. Before starting the activity they showed discomfort and didn’t want to participate of it, until they found out their hands were clean after touching the “paint”, after that, was all fun and giggles.
We were able to break up some resistance in this beginning session which allowed them in the future activities to get their hand on what was being offered as activity. The most exciting part of building the trust with the younger ones at the beginning stages is that in the upcoming sessions they don’t hesitate about actively participating, they show much more willingness to explore and through that they develop skills and abilities they wouldn’t if it wasn't for the Educational Art Therapy session.
